Description: Unpaid
This internship is unpaid for credits; 1 credit per 50/hrs. The intern can receive anywhere from 1-3 credits (3 preferred). Responsibilities include the following:
- Managing the Intake and Referral Program.
- Performing intake of veterans for purpose of assessing legal needs and providing referrals.
- Maintaining paper and electronic case management files.
- Drafting manuals or other operational documents.
- Photocopying and scanning a variety of materials.
- Working with director of Veterans’ Advocacy Law Clinic on outreach, public education, and other community activities.
- Other tasks in support of an operational pro bono law office whose clientele is exclusively veterans and service members.

Purpose of Internship
The purpose of this internship is to provide support to the Veterans Advocacy Law Clinic (VALC). VALC provides legal assistance to current and former military service members, including representing individuals before the Regional Municipalities Veterans Treatment Court and Pima County Justice Court Veterans Court; and on discharge upgrade and disability benefits cases
Agency Qualifications (minimum)
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Commitment to creating a welcoming and positive environment and desire to be of service to veterans.
- Knowledge of and/or interest in learning legal case management software.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills. Highly dependable & punctual. Thoroughness in work.
- Patience with individuals who may have PTSD, TBI, other mental health challenges, or substance abuse issues, or be homeless.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
