The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a critical component of the Department of Homeland Security and plays a key role in promoting homeland security and public safety. The ICE Office of Congressional Relations (OCR) works closely with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to educate and raise awareness on the role of the ICE mission to national security. ICE/OCR is happy to offer unpaid internships to enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. The ICE/OCR internship is a public service professional training and career development program that provides students the unique opportunity to learn about ICE’s role in the immigration continuum, and its engagement with Congress right in the nation’s Capitol. This immersive internship experience is designed to mentor future leaders and make government service accessible to students across the country.
OCR offers valuable professional experience and skills by:
- Learning about the immigration process in America
- Understanding and engaging in the legislative process from bill proposal to enacted law
- Preparing for and attending congressional hearings
- Leading engagements between Congress and the Agency
- Gaining front-line exposure to Homeland Security Investigations and Enforcement and Removal Operations mission execution
- Providing timely responses to requests for information from Congress
- Mentoring opportunities with federal senior law enforcement and business professionals
