Pima County Juvenile Court: Probation

Our Vision is to instill hope and create positive change for children and families. Our Mission is to ensure children are protected, youth are rehabilitated, and the community is safe by administering timely and impartial justice and providing innovative services.

Interns will be assigned to a Probation team.  Interns will learn about the juvenile justice system by attending court hearings with Probation Officers.  Interns will also assist in some report writing, filing documents in a juvenile’s social file, entering contact requirements in our computer systems, and going on ride along with field officers.  Interns may also visit our detention facility.  Interns will always complete all work alongside a Probation Officer.  Given confidential information, interns will not be left alone on the job. Interns can work evenings and weekends if desired.

Deadlines

Must apply at least 2 weeks before the enrollment term to allow time for a background check that may take up to 2 weeks for results.

Purpose of Internship

  • Learn the juvenile justice system vs. the adult system.
  • Gain knowledge on the various processes done in juvenile court that promotes positive youth development.
  • Engage with at risk youth that need additional resources to guide them into making better choices.
  • Follow evidence-based practices approaches in the Probation Field that help youth have successful outcomes and reduce recidivism.

Agency Qualifications (minimum)

Must be an adult 21+. Must pass a background check. Must be able to wear a bulletproof vest issued by the agency.

Agency Qualifications (preferred)

Preference to those interested in working with justice involved youth ages 8-17.

Preference to College Seniors
