Dr. Trese (Theresa) Ricke-Kiely has research and practice interests in nonprofit leadership and management, nonprofit mergers, and mindfulness. Her teaching focus includes leadership, nonprofit management, and public organizational theory and behavior. She has published articles in various journals, including the International Journal of Public Leadership, Research in Ethical Issues in Organizations, The International Journal of Servant-Leadership, International Leadership Journal, and the Journal of Nonprofit Leadership and Education. She is the inaugural book review editor for the Journal of Nonprofit Education and Leadership and is a peer reviewer for various nonprofit and leadership journals. She is co-editor for a special issue in the Journal of Ideology focused on nonprofit leadership and management approaches. She is also a leadership coach and nonprofit consultant specializing in executive, board, and mindful leadership. She published "The Path to Mindful Leadership: Practices for Nonprofit Success" by Kendall Hunt in the summer of 2024 and is starting her second book, aimed at emerging nonprofit leaders. Before joining SGPP, she held administrative and teaching positions at the University of St Thomas, The University of Notre Dame, and the University of South Carolina. Dr. Ricke-Kiely has an EdD in organizational leadership from the University of Sarasota, an MPA from Marist College, and a BA from SUNY New Paltz.

Gemma Smith holds a joint appointment as Assistant Research Professor at the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy and Assistant Professor in the School of Government and Public Policy at the University of Arizona.

Gemma is an interdisciplinary scholar at the intersection of environmental policy, governance, and justice, and water resources engineering. She graduated from Stanford University with a PhD in Environment and Resources and a Minor in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2023.

Her current research focuses on the governance of international freshwater resources. She works to improve the management of transboundary water quality and climate change adaptation through better understanding of governance processes and outcomes in North American borderlands. Her methods draw on social, political, economic and environmental qualitative and quantitative data with the goal of making more robust causal connections between institutional design, policy decisions, and environmental outcomes. Her research has been published in Policy Studies Journal, Environmental Science & Policy, and International Journal of the Commons, among others.

Prior to her PhD, Gemma completed her Master’s in International Policy (Environment and Energy specialization) at Stanford University and a Graduate Diploma in Political Science at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She previously worked in international investment management in Europe and Asia, having completed her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Spanish at the University of Exeter, UK, in 2013.

Dr. Suyeon Jo is an Assistant Professor of Public Management in the School of Government and Public Policy at the University of Arizona. Her research and teaching interests include public and nonprofit management, public participation, volunteerism, collaborative governance, co-production, good governance, and democratic public administration. She is particularly interested in how participatory and collaborative processes shape public governance outcomes. Her work has been published in several public administration journals, including Public Administration Review, Public Management Review and American Review of Public Administration. She has a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Syracuse University, and MPA from Texas A&M University.

Mike Letcher is an Associate Professor of Practice and has over 30 years of City Management experience. He teaches courses in Strategic Planning, Local Government and the Capstone Program. Mike holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas and has published national articles on high performing councils/boards, team building, improving customer service, strategic policy development, strategic budgeting and redefining the governance relationship between the Mayor, City Council and the City Manager in Tucson, Arizona. In his tenure, Mike has also worked with graduate programs in Public Administration at the University of Kansas and University of Vermont.

Adam Douglas Henry is a Professor in the School of Government and Public Policy, and is Director of the University of Arizona's Computational Social Science Program. Dr. Henry's research focuses on policy learning and sustainable development, asking particularly how networked groups of actors in the policy process collaborate to manage complex and divisive issues of environmental policy and sustainability. Henry's recent research has focused on the integration of science and policy in issues of environmental risk (in a project funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation) and the development of computational models of social influence and the adoption of residential solar energy (in a project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory). Henry uses a variety of approaches to study questions of policy learning and sustainability, including agent-based modeling, statistical models of network structure, and mathematical models of self-organizing networks.

Dr. Henry joined the University of Arizona faculty in 2012, and teaches courses in environmental policy, program evaluation, and statistics. Henry is a core faculty member in the University of Arizona's Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Public Policy (MPP) programs. Henry was a recipient of a Giorgio Ruffolo Fellowship in Sustainability Science and spent two years as a research fellow at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Henry is originally from Virginia, completed a B.A. and B.S. at Washington and Lee University, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, Davis.

Brint Milward holds the Melody S. Robidoux Foundation Fund Leadership Chair at the University of Arizona. He was the first director of the School of Government & Public Policy, which is the largest school at the university. He was Director of the National Institute for Civil Discourse, whose honorary co-chairs were President George Herbert Walker Bush and President Bill Clinton. He was the first president of the Public Management Research Association and is a former president of NASPAA. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and in 2019 won the H. George Frederickson Lifetime Achievement Award from the Public Management Research Association. In 2010, he won the NASPAA/ASPA Distinguished Research Award. Milward's research interests revolve around networks and collaboration. His research has focused on understanding how to manage networks of nonprofit and for profit organizations that jointly produce public services. He has conducted studies of what happens when governments privatize public services, or what he calls, governing the “hollow state." Several of these articles are classics in public administration with one named as one of the most influential articles published by Public Administration Review in its 75 year history. In 2018, PS, the journal of the American Political Science Association, recognized him as the 14th most cited scholar in the combined subfields of public administration, public policy, political psychology, and public law. In addition, since 9/11 he has studied illegal and covert networks that pursue grievances or greed. His articles on "Dark Networks," have been widely cited for their application of network analysis and management theory to terrorist networks, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. This work on “dark networks” has led to his participation in federal research grants worth over $10,000,000 since 2009. Milward received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
