Geneva Cole is an assistant professor in the School of Government and Public Policy at the University of Arizona. Previously, she was a postdoctoral researcher in race and ethnic politics in the Department of Government at William and Mary. She received her PhD in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 2023. Geneva's research interests broadly include public opinion, political behavior, and the role of political and social identities in shaping support for racial equality. Her research has been published in Social Science Quarterly, the Journal of Elections, Public Opinion, and Parties, and featured in the Washington Post, MinnPost, and the UCL Centre for US Politics Working Paper Series in American Politics.

Tessa Provins is an Assistant Professor in the School of Government and Public Policy at the University of Arizona. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Merced in 2016 and 2018, respectively, and a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University in 2013.

Dr. Provins's research primarily focuses on two areas: American legislative institutions and Indigenous institutions and policy. In her work on American institutions, she examines how the design of legislative bodies impacts outcomes for groups divided by race, gender, and party affiliation. Her research on Indigenous institutions explores the structure of Native American tribal governments and their effects on intra-tribal, inter-tribal, and government relationships, as well as policy outcomes. While she has several ongoing projects that include tribal case studies, including work on her own tribe, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, most of Dr. Provin's Indigenous politics research takes a pan-tribal approach. Dr. Provin’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Politics, Journal of Public Policy, Political Research Quarterly, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Public Choice, and Social Science Quarterly.

Her teaching interests include American politics, race politics, gender politics, and quantitative methods.

Spencer Lindsay is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the School of Government and Public Policy. His teaching research interests include racial politics, American democracy, public law and political behavior. Spencer earned his Bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin-- Madison. While in attendance, he worked both on political campaigns and in the Wisconsin State Legislature. Shortly after graduating, Spencer attended California State University-- Long Beach, earning a Master’s degree in Political Science. Spencer graduated from CSULB with the highest honor a graduate student can receive from the university. Shortly after finishing his Master’s he taught briefly at Golden West College. He then went on to earn a PhD at the University of Notre Dame. His current research focuses on racial attitudes and democratic values.

Chad Westerland is Associate Professor of Political Science in the School of Government and Public Policy. His research interests are judicial politics, American politics, and political methodology. His work has appeared in journals such as the American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of Politics, and the Journal of Law, Economics, and Organization. He also has received a National Science Foundation grant for his work on immigration law. Professor Westerland teaches undergraduate courses on American Constitutional Law, Law and Social Change, and Judicial Process and graduate courses on American politics and statistical methodology.

Chris Weber is a Professor in the School of Government and Public Policy. He received his PhD in political science from Stony Brook University in 2008. Dr. Weber specializes in political psychology, and political behavior, with a focus on American political campaigns and ideology. In addition, he has research interests in political methodology, primarily experimental methods and measurement. His work has been published in The American Journal of Political Science, The Journal of Politics, Political Behavior, Political Psychology, Social Science Quarterly, Human Communication Research and Political Research Quarterly. Yotam Shmargad is a computational social scientist whose research focuses on understanding how digital platforms shape social and political life in the United States. He uses a mix of statistical and computational techniques, including social network analysis, online data collection, virtual experimentation, machine learning, and econometric methods. His research speaks to questions about how social media dampen certain disparities while magnifying others, and how social media can both fuel political polarization and incivility as well as extinguish their flames. Shmargad’s work has appeared in the Journal of Politics, Political Communication, the Journal of Information Policy, the Journal of Political Marketing, the Journal of Interactive Marketing, PLOS One, Social Science Computer Review, and the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, among other venues. Before joining the University of Arizona, Shmargad received his PhD in Marketing from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Lisa M. Sanchez is an assistant professor in the School of Government and Public Policy at the University of Arizona. She holds a master’s degree in American politics and public policy and a doctorate in political science with distinction from the University of New Mexico. She is an alumnus of the APSA Minority Fellows program and the Robert Wood Johnson Center for Health Policy. Her research utilizes quantitative methodologies to root out ethno-racial disparities in American politics, understand how disparities are perpetuated through the American political system, and address how they might be mitigated. As a result, her research spans many specialties within the field of American politics including Congressional politics, public policy (health and immigration), identity politics, state politics, political identity, and political participation. Recent projects analyze the adoption of beneficial immigration policies in the American states, the prevalence of cross-racial linked fate among Americans of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, and the relationship between a rising U.S. Latino population and its electoral impacts within the U.S. Congress.

William Mishler is Professor of Government and Public Policy at the University of Arizona and Distinguished Visiting Professor of Political Science at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. Mishler received his BA at Stetson University and his PhD from Duke University. Before moving to Arizona in 1997, he held tenured positions at Duke University, SUNY Buffalo, and as the James F. and Maude B. Byrnes Professor of Government at the University of South Carolina. He has twice served as Director of the Political Science Program at the U.S. National Science Foundation and for three years as Senior Research Scientist and Democracy Fellow in the Center for Democracy, Human Rights and Governance at the United States Agency for International Development. A specialist in democratic theory, he teaches and writes on public opinion, political representation, and the dynamics of citizen support for democratic parties, leaders and regimes. Recently he has been writing and consulting on problems of Human Trafficking. Mishler is the author or co-author of eight books, the most recent of which is Popular Support for an Undemocratic Regime: the Changing Views of Russians (Cambridge University Press, 2011). He also is the author of numerous articles and chapters in most of the leading Political Science journals including the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, The Journal of Politics, British Journal of Political Science, Comparative Politics, Comparative Political Studies, and Legislative Studies Quarterly. In addition to his scholarly work, Mishler has consulted extensively on Conflict Management, Democratization, and Public Opinion for the United States Agency for International Development and a variety of non-governmental organizations including the Academy for Educational Development, ARD Inc., FHI 360, IIE, Management Systems International, the National Democratic Institute, NORC and Social Impact. His consulting work has taken him to Armenia, Bangladesh, Colombia, Georgia, Guatemala, Serbia, Honduras, Kosovo, Liberia, Libya, Morocco, Nepal, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Tunisia, Senegal, and Sri Lanka.

Samara Klar is a Professor at the University of Arizona School of Government and Public Policy. She studies how individuals’ personal identities and social surroundings influence their political attitudes and behavior. Most often, she uses experimental methods (in and outside the lab), surveys, and other statistical tools. Dr. Klar received her PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University and also hold degrees in political science from Columbia University and McGill University.

Her award-winning book, Independent Politics, (co-authored with Yanna Krupnikov) was published by Cambridge University Press in 2016 and her research appears in top journals including Science, Nature Human Behaviour, American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, and many others. This work has received multiple national awards from the American Political Science Association, the Midwest Political Science Association, and the American Association for Public Opinion Research.

Dr. Klar’s research is supported by awards and grants from the National Science Foundation, Time-sharing Experiments for the Social Sciences, the Social Science Research Council, and other organizations. She founded the website www.WomenAlsoKnowStuff.com, which promotes work by women in political science and she has provided expert consulting on public opinion and political communication.

Frank is an Associate Professor in the School of Government and Public Policy (SGPP). He received his Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in May 2017. He received a Master of Arts in Political Science at UNL, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Delaware in 2011. His research strengths lay primarily in political psychology, experimental design and quantitative methods. His current research involves using theories from social neuroscience to understand how people place themselves in groups in society, how group-related attitudes interact with “higher-level” ideological principles, and how this interaction impacts political opinions and behaviors.

Frank is also heavily engaged in several other research agendas, which address questions such as: why people are liberal or conservative, what sorts of language Democratic and Republican elites use, how people perceive ideologically extreme and moderate candidates, how disease salience influences policy attitudes, how to cultivate democratic deliberation via group discussions, and why people feel the way they do about income inequality. He has been published in political science journals such as Political Communication and Political Research Quarterly as well as psychology journals such as Behavioural Brain Research and Judgment and Decision Making.
